Grade 'C' heat treated high strength Conelok® lock nuts are made for critical applications, used with heat treated high carbon and alloy steel bolts including SAE Grade 8. The cadmium finish resists rust and the pre-lubricant wax coating produces a uniform clamping force. Two sectors of the Conelok® lock nut are preformed inwardly. When the nut is applied to the bolt, these deflected threads are elastically returned to a circular form and create an inward and downward pressure which produces intimate contact between the load carrying flanks of the nut and bolt threads. The Conelok® nut starts freely and then requires wrenching as the out of round gripping threads engage the bolt. The prevailing torque enables the stop nut to remain in a fixed position through a wide adjustment range and it retains its locking ability through many reuses.
